Barrington Solar recently completed a solar installation for a residential client aiming to reduce both the carbon footprint and energy bills of their Grade II listed property.
The system consisted of 10 x 510W All Black solar PV panels mounted across the two garage roofs. These panels were connected to a 5kW single-phase hybrid inverter installed in the detached garage. To maintain a clean and discreet appearance, all cabling between the main house and garage was buried and ducted. An expandable 9.32kW battery storage system was integrated, enabling excess energy generated during the day to be stored for evening use. Additionally, the system supports load shifting during the winter months by leveraging off-peak energy tariffs.
This 5.1kWp PV system was carefully designed to optimise solar generation, with an estimated annual output of 3.62MWh.
With the addition of a new Zappi GLO EV Charger, the client is future-proofed for the transition to electric vehicle ownership.
Project impact
This installation is expected to eliminate the client’s annual bills and generate excess revenue through the Smart Export Guarantee. With proper management, the client is projected to draw minimal energy from the grid during spring to autumn, then relying primarily on stored energy during the winter, charged at lower off-peak rate.
