Barrington Solar recently completed an advanced solar installation project for a residential client keen on adopting sustainable energy solutions. This project aimed to significantly reduce the household’s energy costs and carbon footprint while providing reliable and efficient energy management.
The installation involved fitting 30 high-output, dual glass, bi-facial solar PV panels across three roofs: the south-facing roof of the main house, and the east and west-facing roofs of the garage. These panels were connected to a 10.5kW single-phase Hybrid inverter. To enhance the system’s performance and ensure optimal energy generation, the Tigo optimiser was utilised. The Tigo optimiser enhances the system’s efficiency by monitoring and adjusting the output of each solar panel, mitigating shading losses and ensuring optimal performance under varying conditions. In addition to this an 18.64kW battery storage system was integrated allow for the use of excess solar generation throughout the day to be stored and used in the evening.
To further reduce reliance on grid power, a power diverter was used (EDDI) which diverts excess solar energy into the client’s immersion boiler, warming the hot water. On top of this, an EV charger (Zappi) was installed to support the client’s electric vehicle, allowing them to charge directly from the solar power generated.
The 13.20 kW PV System array was specifically placed in an area that both allowed for excellent solar generation – estimated more than 10MWh annually and direct-consuming 47%. With the location of the inverter and batteries being away from the main property, civil works were completed to duct and hide the PV, transmission and data cables required providing a seamless optic.
Project impact
The installation is expected to generate significant electricity annually, reducing the household’s reliance on grid electricity and lowering energy bills. The comprehensive system setup not only meets the client’s immediate energy needs but also contributes to long-term sustainability goals by minimizing carbon emissions.
